Port-a-Rig

For Portable VHF/UHF Operations

Here's a fun little V/U setup that's semi-portable.  You can use it in the field, at home, on the patio, or throw it in the car if you don't want to do a permanent install there.  Gives you full base-rig power and lot's of audio output.

Throw a UHF-elbow connector on the radio and screw-on your favorite dual-band whip (see the "Quick 'n' Dirty" in the antenna section).

The elevated antenna would work great for public-service functions where you don't have a vehicle/mag-mount nearby.

Here I added the awesome, very accurate Smakn digital voltmeter with a switch, to monitor the battery level.  ($8, Amazon)

The last picture shows the Quick 'n' Dirty antenna attached.

Mine:

18ah AGM battery in the box.

Yaesu FT-7900 (dual-band, 50w).  Really small, works great for this.

DX Engineering external speaker.

High-accuracy digital DC voltmeter.

Input jacks for charging battery.

Pipe flange to attach 1/2" pipe for an elevated antenna, if desired (a 3ft pipe puts the antenna well above your head when the rig is placed on a table).
